Which Watch are you?

A good watch can be used as mans most useful weapon when out and about, as women tend to judge a guy first by his overall outfit then by his watch. If your perched up by a bar with your hand cupping your drink then your watch is in full view of any lady stood next to you. If your sat on the tube reading the Metro, then your watch is at eye level of the passenger sat next to you. In some ways you could look at the female race almost like magpies they are attracted to shiny things!

Now we would all love a personalised Cartier shiner on our wrists, however the likelihood of you being able to whack out around £30,000 smackers is near to none.

However don't despair gents, as there are plenty of other options available to you at a fraction of the price!

All Hail "Uniform Wares 100 Series steel watch £120" With it's simple design it oozes sophistication with a playful edge!

Welcome "Casio's A168WG-9EF Gold Plated Digital Watch £40" The retro icon keeps popping back up on the fashion radar, if you tend to shop down Bricklane, or hang out round Camden Lock, then this is the watch for you!

The "city boy" watch "Emporio Armani AR3124 Diamond Set Mens Watch" This watch oozes taste and money, however at £299.00 it's a bargain! The magpies will be eying up the diamond detailing on the face.

Johnny Depp: A red carpet debonair

Johnny Depp has to be one of the most versatile actors Hollywood has ever seen. He's played anything from fictional chocolate factory owners to infamous bank robbers and yet his own personality is still so unknown.

However his red carpet style has caught our eye. The quirky double breasted blazers, interesting tweeds or printed tuxes and we particularly favor those thick framed glasses!

If you have a big event coming up definitely turn to Mr Depp for some style inspiration!

An Interview With.....

Matthew Zorpas from The Gentleman Blogger!! We have caught up with new blogger on the block who is taking the fashion world by storm!

Tell us a little bit about yourself?

I was born in Cyprus and I moved to London six years ago to study Public Relations. I have been supporting young generation designers for the past six years and I was voted the 2nd Best Dressed Man in Britain by Esquire magazine UK in 2010. I am also working as a freelance digital consultant and I am now passing my knowledge by teaching the Business of Luxury course at Istituto Marangoni. I continue to explore my passions and enjoying what this city is offering the most, creativity and innovation. Last week, I launched 'The Gentleman Blogger' which is my personal journey, full of discoveries, towards becoming an elegant gentleman ...

• How/when/why did you start blogging?

The Gentleman Blogger launched on the 26 of July 2012, after Diane Pernet suggested I should start my own blog. I felt the need to inspire, to confuse and challenge traditional men's style.

• What are your influences when it comes to getting dressed in the morning?

The people that I'm planning to meet on the day.

• What's your favourite item in your wardrobe and why?

I am a big fan of white shirts. They just add a sparkle of perfection to any outfit.

 • Where is your favourite place to shop?

The Box Boutique for ultimate slippers, COS for casual outdoor clothes, Ozwald Boateng for suits and Richard James for accessories.

• Give us a style no-go:

Suits and trainers are a faux-pas.

• What's your perfect summer outfit?

It turns out to be my double-breasted navy blue suit by Reiss with a yellow dog-printed handkerchief.

• What is your favourite item in our website?
Mark Thomas Taylor Navy Riviera Shorts!

• What's on your wishlist for A/W 2012?

From established brands I have my eyes to Jil Sander paper bag and the Costume National rain jacket! From young designers keeping an eye to Six Lee new knitwear pieces.

 • Where do you see yourself in 10 years time?

I would love to work for European Committee or Cyprus Embassy in their cultural department. I like working on creative projects which directly help young people and make a difference to the world.

 • Who is your style icon?

Looking at the past Federico Fellini is a figure that constantly comes to mind for inspiration. His ultimate sharp look, but also his movies have turned into my main creative drive.

Mulberrys solution for your money!

As we were browsing Mulberrys online store, we came across this little gem! We, like most of you men out there have a bi-fold wallet, this way we can store both our cash and cards. We love the idea of a money clip, however, this only holds our cash, the same applies to credit card holders.

It's the slimline effect of these style wallets which captures us. No more bulky pockets or storing of receipts which just don't need! Alas we have yet to find a wallet which offers us theses qualities until we came across this.......

As you can see, the front holds all of your cards and in the middle is a slot for your cash! WALLAH!! we have found our dream money holder and only for a mere £90.00 buy it here

Joey Essexs' style

Joey Essex is one of the most talked about men from TOWIE bar Mario's trout pout. We have had quite a bit of interest in his style since we wrote about TOWIE vs Made In Chelsea a few weeks ago.

So here is another style mishap from Mr Essex. Well we love the shirt (maybe he could do up one more button) and the skinny fit tailored trousers get a huge thumbs up for us, it's just such a shame he went and put on those awful Christian Louboutin trainers with the spikes!!! Brown pointy toed brogues would have completed the outfit perfectly.

If you want to dress down a tailored look, we advise maybe changing the shirt to a plain white tee.. Don't wear trainers with tailored trousers!!!!!

Joey may appear on our blog a few more times over until he gets it right!!!

Rise of the Superga

Canvas style shoes have taken over the market over the past few years, Converse initiated the trend then along came Vans and now we have Superga.

The Italian brand which has been in the business since 1911, has created what we believe the classier canvas shoe. The Superga has a chunkier sole than Converse (which we prefer, as Converse can make you appear to have clown feet!) but without the skateboardness of the Van (lets face it you can only really be 18 years old and rock a pair of Vans properly)

Like all the other styles, Superga's come in a range of colours, however our favourites are the 2750 Classics in Nav, oh and you must have the staple white pair aswell!!

They are available at most leading footwear stores, Office.com and Asos.com plus more!

Kodi Lane- A fellow gentleman

When we came across these images we were blown away! The creativity behind each photograph had our eyes captivated for a good half an hour.

Canadian born now living in the city of angels (LA) the editorial and fashion photographer is influenced by natural beauty, mixed races, awesome styles, futurism and grunge. He's come along way since his early days where he was armed with a disposable camera bought from the local supermarket. Now he's one of the most wanted photographers!

His background is computer science, digital art, new media and graphic design which would give him all the necassary skills to produce the effects on some of his photos. He thanks the likes of Vogue and the ads they supplied throughout the magazine as this is where his initial passion for photography was born.

"I was always infatuated with photographs, I remember how I'd get so annoyed when someone else would have a camera, and how badly they captured the memories, I guess that's my style; To Live and Capture Moments."
                             (Kodi Lane interview from jesselamoda.com)

Kodi Lane is one to watch this year!!! Hopefully he'll come and work for us!!!

Tis the season to be shirting!!!

Tis the season to be shirting! There are only so many events where you can rock a t-shirt, why not invest in this seasons hottest piece.... THE SHIRT!....

A highly versatile piece which can be both dressed up and down. Thomas Codd's Tartan pocket shirt (pictured top left) adds an eclectic slightly punky take on your average tailored shirt or for a slightly smarter wardrobe staple opt for the Knowledge Cotton Apparel double layer shirt (pictured bottom left which can either be worn with chino's or jeans.

Either way you can't go wrong in one of these shirts available at www.thegentlemanswardrobe.co.uk

The Rayban Wayfarer

As the summer is well upon us, and holiday season begins it's time to assess the sunglasses situation. With so many styles and brand sit's difficult to know which ones to choose. I mean which colour to get? Which style will suit you? Which brand is worth your money? Here at The Gentlemans Wardrobe HQ we narrowed it down to one cult classic......

The Rayban Wayfarer!!

Born in 1956, it's design was revolutionary due to people getting bored of the constant metal eye wear available on the market. They had their first boom in the 50's and 60's however there was a decline in the market come the 70's. Rayban decided to invest in a $50,000 mega deal with Burbank California which placed the Rayban Wayfarer in over 60 movies and television programs. Tom Cruises' wearing of the Wayfarer in the 1983 movie "Risky Business" marked the beginning of a Wayfarer phenomenon, 360,000 were sold that year alone.

Since then the Wayfarer has had it's ups and downs, the 90's didn't like them and its only been up until recently that the demand has returned for this iconic style.

The Gentlemans Wardrobe chose this pair of sunglasses as this summers must-have because unlike many other styles this styles suits all and there is a choice of colours and patterns, so there is a pair for everyone!!

Get shopping gents!!!!

The 21st Gentleman

As "The Gentlemans Wardrobe" We cater to the 21st century gentleman. Now who is the 21st gentleman?

Through the centuries the gentleman has always been the best dressed in town, immaculately groomed and he has always been the most eligible batchelor with women falling at his feet.

Now as far as fashion goes, the gentleman has been known to wear tights, jodhpurs, pixie style shoes, velvet pea jackets, dickie bow ties, normally they are suited and booted plus more. We have not long been in the 21st century and already there has been a surge in mens fashion especially streetwear..... hence the beginning of the the 21st century gentleman! He is the guy who may wear a graphic print tee, chino's, blazer and brogues. He may be the guy in the snapback, short shorts and oversized drop armhole vest. Fashion has taken a turn for more of an urban feel, it's like the 90's meets the 50's.

Here at The Gentlemans Wardrobe, we aim to provide on trend clothing, from brands around the globe for the 21st century gentleman!!!

Is Asos becoming too big?

In the last 7 or so years, we have watched Asos go from a UK based "as seen on screen" online retailer to a global success. They are known worldwide and are a one-stop-shop for everyone. However the only downfall is, are they too big? You have a big night out coming up and you need an outfit, your first thoughts are ill check out Asos, you then find yourself scrolling through 50+ pages and suddenly there is too much choice.

Asos's own range, which is wallet friendly has enough choice anyway let alone adding the umpteen other brands available. Are they trying to be the next Amazon for fashion go'ers? If so how will this effect how we browse on the site?

Our view on online shopping, is that it's an easier option to trawling around the high street. You know what you want and in a few clicks its being delivered to your doorstep (god bless the beauty of technology) so in our opinion Asos is getting too big, there is too much to search through to get us to find the product we are after in the shortest time possible and for the best price.

We love you Asos but please slow down!!!
